When I was an Evangelical-Protestant Pastor, I taught our congregation that to “bless Israel is to be blessed, and to curse Israel is to be cursed.” After all, didn’t God himself say this in Genesis 12:1-4, and other places?
When I would talk about this “blessing and cursing,” I was always talking about the modern-day secular nation-state of Israel, founded by the U.N. in 1948. When I became Catholic, I learned what the Bible (and what the Church for 2000 years) actually teaches.
In this episode, I’ll walk through the Bible and the Catechism, step by step, to answer the question — “Is modern-day Israel the same as the Israel in the Bible?”
